Volunteer Opportunities

Taking care of the shelter/PETCO habitat:
Clean cages, scoop litter boxes
Feed and water the cats
Sweep shelter/habitat floor.
Wash and disinfect food/water dishes
Wash and disinfect kitty litter boxes

Taking care of the cats:
Play and exercise with cats in Playroom with lots of TLC
Work with shy cats using toys, food rewards and other behavior modification
Learn to administer medications to cats
Transport cats weekdays to veterinary specialists

Adoption program:
Learn to screen potential adopters over the phone
Phone recent adopters to follow-up on how cat is doing in new home
Consider fostering special needs cat until adopted
Train to become Adoption Counselor
Staff off-site special events (cats are transported to event)
Take photographs of cats for Website

Educational:
Staff special events - promote our mission, recruit volunteers
Speak to civic and community groups about our mission and programs

Plan and organize social events for volunteers

Feed/water cats, minor cage clean-up, and play with cats at PETCO

Saturdays
11am-4pm
Assist staff doing adoptions at PETCO. Can be playing/grooming cats, setting up cages for new cats, answering questions from possible new owners, etc.

The undersigned hereby acknowledges that working with animals may be dangerous and can lead to serious injury or even death. The undersigned understands and agrees to personally assume any and all liability and risks of working The Animal Awareness Society Inc. (TAAS). Further, the undersigned agrees to hold harmless TAAS, its officers and agents, from any responsibility or liability for any and all personal injuries or death which may occur during the term of this agreement.
